WELCOME to the Wheatland Mercantile

Step back in time into the old Wheatland Mercantile. We may not have wool socks for 5 cents, but we do have shoe horns. The store has lots of cross-stitch, needlepoint and embroidery materials from threads to patterns and fabrics. We also have books, from mystery to history and a lot in between. The gun shop is well stocked with ammunition and Jef is making more custom guns for sale. Don't be cross…check out the cross stitch patterns, kits and fabrics. We have t charms, Mill Hill Beads, fancy buttons and specialty stitchery tools. Lace making supplies, very fine crochet threads, gold for gold work, and needlepoint canvases are available. Step up to the 100 year old cabinet to see postal commemorative items (pre 1980), old lace (pre 1930) and other old items many of which are for sale. Call or email to order from us.

In 1903 the Wheatland Hardware store was built at 875 Gilchrist Street.  Today that building is called The Wheatland Mercantile. Much of the old brick is still visible in the basement. The straight sided oak floor is mostly original although it has over 17 holes in it. One group of holes was where the rope came up from the basement to be cut and sold by the yard. The ceiling is still the original pressed tin, with a very ornate scroll design that is in excellent shape. The original three gas chandelier lights have been replaced (in the early '30s) with five electric lights down the center of the building. Yes, we have added a lot of lights and had the whole building rewired! The old wood burning stove is gone, but in its place stands a gas log stove that uses the original chimney. Chuck and Nancy Munier received the Marion Cauly award for historic restoration of this building in 2003. The original Wheatland Mercantile was built across the street from our building in the 1890's. It burnt to the ground in 1903. In 1909 it was rebuilt with locally made brick made right here in Wheatland.

Stop by the last weekend in July for a wild west shoot out. The Wheatland Mercantile gets robbed and a gunfight between the the good guys and the bad guys, who will win? Come by to find out!

Now we jump into the technology age with an Internet Café …stop in with your laptop and wirelessly connect to the internet...special rates for our customers. (If it is the middle of the night then park out front. You will be directed to our start page with “W))hotspot”. We now have a onsite computer for you to use if you do not have a laptop.

Jef has expanded his gun shop.

We have rifle and pistol ammunition, primarily Hornaday brand, several styles of targets (free thumb tacks with each purchase of targets), hearing protectors, cleaning supplies, cases and other accessories. Just added! Bird hunting vests.

Jef tries to keep bases and rings; recoil pads and other frequently needed repair items on hand so he can get you back on target! Bore Sighting is also available.

With the help of Phil Martin we are able to offer cleaning of your guns along with repair work.

Stop in and talk to Jef about your next gun, custom built or special ordered, he will make sure it is the right gun for you and what you want it to do.

We will special order guns, suplies and ammo for you! We give you a special break on the the ammo if you buy it by the case.

Wheatland Mercantile Classes Stitchery classes by request. Call the store for current Class information.

• Must be paid for 48 hr in advance unless noted in class description. (We often have to
  order supplies in advance of class so we really need to know who is coming.) Refunds at discretion of teacher .. If teacher cancels class then full money will be returned
  to student. All Classes are in Basement of Wheatland Mercantile unless stated. Please bring standard sewing supplies with you. (Scissors, rotary cutter, (mats provided) ,
  sewing machine for quilt classes, and other items listed in class handout. ( you get handout
  when you pay for class.)
• Classes fill quickly… they have min. and max students listed, please be aware that we can
  not make exceptions as materials are often the limiting factor.
